Cute and Cuddly New Baby Card

Here's a card that I made for yet another of my friends who just had a new bundle of joy! I'm enjoying making baby cards as it's a nice change from my standard bday and thank you cards.  The design and colours are a CASE from Splitcoast, but I can't seem to find the original - so apologies if this is your card.  I love it! :)

I've used the bear image from Cute & Cuddly again, along with adorable from warm words.  It's a pocket style card, and with a few  layers and paper piercing.  I've used the new scallop oval punch which works perfectly with the words from the warm words set.

You can see the pull out portion piece along with the paper piercing along the edge. I used the wide oval to create the tab, and then attached the button using a glue dot.  And, the best part of all is how easy the paper piercing is with the guide from the mat pack.

Paper: Kraft, Pink Pirouette, Baja Breeze, Whisper White card stock, Candy Lane designer series paper

Watercolouring Class - Learn the Six Ways to Watercolour with Stamps! (scroll down for new posts)

Here's a sneak peek of just one of the six cards we'll be making in the upcoming watercolouring class.  Join me to learn the six different ways you can watercolour your hand stamps creations.  This class is a great way to learn new watercolouring techniques and play with different mediums including ink, markers, watercolour wonder crayons and pencil crayons. 

Spaces are limited for this class, and the deadline for registration is May 17th.  Advanced payment is required to confirm  your place.

This card uses the Soft Summer stamp set, and is coloured using Watercolour Wonder Crayons and blender pen.  You can make your own version at the class!

Bookmark: Stamp, Layer and Sponge Technique Project (Great Friend)

Here's a quick and easy bookmark we made last week at my friend Kendra's workshop. A lot of the ladies from our book club were there, so she figured a bookmark was the perfect project!

The technique here is a whole lot of stamping, layering and then sponging.  Here's the order I stamped everything in to get this effect:

• Stamp Leave image in Kiwi Kiss
• Stamp Butterfly image in Baja Breeze
• Sponge over paper with Kiwi Kiss, So Saffron, Baja Breeze and Orchid Opulence. (darkest to lightest is best and remember to take it easy, it is easier to put more on)
• Stamp butterfly again in Orchid Opulence
• Finish by sponging over any spots needing a bit of colour, and around the edges

That's it.  The rest is super easy - all the corners are done with the corner rounder punch. The Whisper White base measures 2 by 5 inches, and the Night of Navy piece 2 1/4 by 5 1/4 inches.  I tucked the bashful blue grosgrain ribbon between the two layers, and then topped it off with a small filgree brad.

If you wanted to protect this a bit more, you could cover the whisper white piece with versamark and then heat emboss it with clear ep or glassy glaze enamel.  Or you could cover it with Crystal Effects. 

This would be a great mother's day gift, teacher's gift or for any book lover on your list!  

The sun is shining here, and we're in for a beautiful weekend!  I can hardly wait to get my hands into my garden this weekend!

Happy Earth Day! Tips for Being an Environmentally Friendly Paper Crafter

Happy earth day!  I was thinking about all the ways that us papercrafters can do our part to help the environment.  Let's face it, this probably not the most environmentally friendly hobby, but there's lots of things we can do to make the most of things. 

I've made a list of things I've found can help get more from your supplies, reduce packaging, and more.  Before I get onto the list, I wanted to share just a few of Stampin' Up's environmental practices so you can have confidence you are buying from a company that is contributing to keeping things green.  A recent issue of the Stampin' Success magazine for demos (another great perk!) outlined all of them - and here's a few:

• All SU cardstock includes recycled content.  In fact, the darker the cardstock, the more recycled content.  So Basic Black is the company's most green paper!

• The company has a practice of ensuring all trucks moving products between facilities are full to reduce carbon emissions.

• All of the leftover rubber from manufacturing is used in place of pea stone or other materials in a Park in Kanab, Utah.

So, what you can do personally to ease the load on mother earth?  Here's a few things:

• Save even your small scraps and put them aside to create pre-punched accents.
• Take bigger scraps of cardstock and file them by colour for easy access in hanging file folders.
• Save packaging and use it on your project.  Thin cardboard can be punched and cello wrap as accents on your projects.  My favourite is the white thin chipboard in the designer series paper packages.   Perfect for thicker items, and for the Big Shot!   Ink or paint packaging to work with your project. 
• Don't forget the "negatives" of chipboard and stickers - you can do a lot with a little imagination.
• Recycle your leftover scraps in the blue box (or take them to work and put them in with the paper recycling).
• Donate left over supplies to a local school, daycare or community group.
• Save all the scraps of ribbon in a clear jar on your desk for easy access.
