Accordion Fold Flower - Spice Cake Designer Series Paper

I am on my way to Vegas today for Stampin' Up Founder's Circle...but not to worry, I've pre-programmed some posts while I"m away. Plus, I'm sure I'll be taking lots of pictures to share from throughout the week.  Today I am going to Vegas for the night and meeting up with lots of ladies for dinner! Then we go to St George and where we have some planned activities, and lots of free time!  I have big plans including a Zip Lining trip through a desert canyon, and I'm going to Stampin' Up's manufacturing facility and will get to see where the stamps are actually made!  (I think this may officially qualify me as a stamping geeks as I am pretty excited about this.)

Enough chit chat, here's another card featuring the Simply Scored Tool.  The accordion fold was done by scoring in between the scallops across the circle. I know...hard to explain, easy once you see it in action! This color combo is pulled from the Spice Cake Designer Series Paper from the Holiday Mini - Early Espresso, Pool Party, More Mustard and Very Vanilla.   Check out the paper - don't you love it?

The background panel on the card is the Top Note embossed with the Square Lattice Folder and the accordion flower is held together with a 3/4 circle out of Pool Party and a Vintage Brad. The greeting is from the Family Reunion set - a must-have to make card for every member of your family, which is stamped on Crumb Cake with Early Espresso.

Fun Folds Flower Treat Cup!

 

I saw this idea ages ago on Stampin' Connection and kept meaning to make one...and finally when I found "fall" colored M&Ms I decided to put the idea into action!  I have no idea who created this fabulous combinatin of the Fun Folds Flower Die for the Big Shot and Sweet Treat Cups - but it's so cute!

We made this at August's Stamping Soiree night along with two cards which you can check out here and here. We used the two biggest flowers on the die and the smaller of the two was embossed with the Houndstooth Embosing Folder.  Then we stuck them together and added the treat cup on top.  To cover up the "lip" of the cup we added two rings created with the 1 3/4 circle and the 2 3/8 scallop circle punches. A stamped greeting tops the whole thing off.  Super easy and who doesn't like treats?

As we go into the fall, I sort of dread all the candy that comes with both Thanksgiving and Christmas...and then Valentine's Day and Easter.  The non-candy pat of the year is so much easier. The good news is you'll see lots of cute treat related projects in the coming months!

Five Minute Friday - Day of Gratitude Rock and Roll Card

There's so many great stamp sets in this year's Holiday Mini catalog, but one of the absolutely most versatile sets is Day of Gratitude (W120835/C121148). While it has a fall-like theme, it can easily be used for other projects, particularly the medallion image. Here it's been put to work on a simple thanksgiving card which features rock and roll technique and some embossing.

Step by Step Directions

1. Cut paper as follows:
   1. Early Espresso card base to 5.5 x 8.5
   2. Very Vanilla mat for stamped images to 4 x 5.25
   3. Extra piece of Very Vanilla for punched greeting and acorn
2. Fold card base in half and make crisp line with bone folder.
3. Stamp images using Rock and Roll Technique. The key with this technique is to use two close colors and ink up the stamp with the lighter color and then roll the edges in the darker color. Stamp the medallion in So Saffron and More Mustard, single leaf in Pumpkin Pie and Cajun Craze and branch of leaves in Cherry Cobbler and Riding Hood Red.
4. Run stamped panel through the Big Shot using the Square Lattice embossing folder. Ink edges with Early Espresso and Cajun Craze.
5. Attach Cherry Cobbler seam binding to stamped piece using SNAIL and attach to card base using SNAIL.
6. Stamp greeting in Early Espresso and punch out with 2 1/2 Circle Punch. Affix to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
7. Using markers color the acorn with Early Espresso and Cajun Craze and cut out with paper snips. Attach with half of a Stampin' Dimensional.

Box #2 Meets Autumn Spice - Fall Table Favor Box

 

This is the 3D item we did at last week's Stamping Soiree night. Each month we do two technique cards, and members also get a bonus project like this one as well!  I just love this box - perfect for a gift at a place setting for your fall gatherings, or to hold a small gift. This favour box uses the Autumn Spice Designer Series (120808) paper from the Holiday Mini which is absolutely perfect for boxes as it has a heavier weight than normal Designer Series Paper.

Step by Step Directions

1. Cut desired piece of Designer Series Paper to 6x12.
2. Take Box #2 die and run through the Big Shot. Place the pattern you'd like to have on the outside of your box down so it is facing the die. Remember, if you have a distinct pattern like the one above to make sure that your pattern is running the right way.
3. Assemble die cut box by adding sticky strip to the flap and folding the bottom together.
4. Punch Early Espresso Scallop Circle, then crumble and flatten back out to create texture
5. Stamp leaf from Day of Gratitude Set in Cajun Craze Classic Ink on Very Vanilla. Cut out using paper snips. Attach to scallop circle using Stampin' Dimensionals. Attach this entire piece to box using SNAIL. Add pearl to leaf as shown.
6. Stamp "just for you" from Teeny Tiny Wishes in Pear Pizzazz. Cut out with Oval Punch, add to box with Stampin' Dimensionals.
7. Tie Pear Pizzazz ribbon around the box end to end and tie in a bow.

Day of Gratitude - Emboss Resist Technique

 

This week's technique, Emboss Resist, enables you to get a wide variety of looks with some basic heat embossing, sponges and classic ink. Technique Directions

1. Emboss medallion image from Day of Gratitude with Gold Embossing Powder on Very Vanilla cardstock.
2. Sponge Rich Razzleberry classic around the edge, and Pumpkin Pie in the centre of the image.
3. Take a Kleenex to wipe any extra ink off embossed detail.

Bonus Techniques – Shimmer Paint Spray

1. Place rubbing alcohol in a small spray bottle.
2. Add 5-6 drops of Shimmer Paint and shake well.
3. Spray embossed panel with shimmer paint mixture.

Finishing Touches

1. Take card base and fold in half.
2. On bottom right corner stamp greeting as shown in Rich Razzleberry.
3. Run 2.75 x 4.25 Rich Razzleberry panel through Big Shot with Petals A Plenty Embossing Folder. Spray with shimmer paint mixture and set aside to dry.
4. Cut out emboss resist medallion with paper snips and set antique brad in the middle.
5. Attach embossed piece to the card base with SNAIL.
6. Affix Rich Razzleberry ribbon along the seam under the embossed piece with SNAIL, cut off edges so they are square with the edge.
7. Attach medallion with Stampin' Dimensionals as shown.

Emboss resist offers you the ability to create dramatically different looks depending on the embossing powder and ink you use. With a different color combination, this stamp set can easily be used for multiple seasons. Love it!

Step by Step Instructions

1. Cut out Scallop Square card base out of More Mustard using Big Shot.
2. Cut a piece of 4 x 8 Very Vanilla Cardstock and score in the centre. Adhere to scallop square base.
3. Cut 3.75 x 3.75 piece of Autumn Spice Designer Series Paper and attach to card front with SNAIL.
4. Ink up medallion image in More Mustard, gently roll in Cajun Craze and then the outside edge in Early Expresso, stamp image on Very Vanilla cardstock.
5. Cut out stamped image with paper snips.
6. Set vintage brad through centre of image with paper piercer. Attach to card base with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Fall themed thank you card with the Big Shot

 

It cracks me up how as a stamper and scrapbooker I get so excited about each new season...even when I know it's going to get colder soon enough. I have always loved fall, and when it comes to scrapbooking it's no exception. I love the colors, the leaves, the pumpkins...so many possibilities.  Here's a simple fall card that you could change up color wise and make any time of year.  Lots of Big Shot items on this one - but great proof how the Big Shot makes life that much easier!

Fall Thank You Card Step by Step Instructions

1. Cut Cajun Craze cardstock to 5.5 by 8.5 and fold in half with Bone Folder.
2. Stamp leaf image from Confetti in Cajun Craze Classic Ink to cover front of card base.
3. Punch a large scallop circle from More Mustard Cardstock; crumble up and then smooth back out. Separate layers of paper to create faux suede effect. Carefully pierce each scallop and set aside.
4. Cut out leaf using Big Shot Leaves #2 die, take maple leaf and then run back through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Embossing Folder, layer on top of scallop circle with Stampin' Dimensionals.
5. Stamp thanks from Fabulous Phrases in Cherry Cobbler Classic Ink on Confetti White cardstock and then punch out with Large Oval. Attach to leaf piece with SNAIL
6. Take a small piece of crochet trim and attach to back of scallop circle with SNAIL, leaving a tail as shown.
7. Attach scallop piece and crochet trim to card base.
8. Thread Linen Thread through the button and tie off. Trim excess. Add to finished card with a glue dot, on top of Crochet Trim.

Enjoy Summer while it's still around...before long we'll all (at least around here) be complaining about snow!

Five Minute Friday - Autumn Splendor Thank You Card

Starting today, projects posted on Fridays will now be "five minute" papercrafting projects. The idea is to share quick and easy projects you can create when you are short on time, or need to make multiple projects.  Today's card is very easy and keeps the use of supplies to a minimum!  The main technique is collage stamping and then going over things quickly with an aquapainter. Here's how I did it:

1. Cut Really Rust card base to 8.5 by 11.

2. Cut More Mustard mat to 4 x 5.25.

3. Cut Confetti White card stock panel to 3.75 x 5.

4. Using More Mustard, Chocolate Chip and Really Rust, stamp leaves around top of card as shown.

5. Stamp greeting in Chocolate Chip.

6. Using SNAIL attach Confetti White panel to More Mustard mat.  Wrap ribbon around the back and attach with SNAIL.

7. Attach card mat to card base with SNAIL. You are done!

Wasn't that easy?  Sometimes, it's a good idea to limit your supplies and keep your embellishments and bling to a minimum to save on time, especially if you want to make a lot of cards fast.  I was able to make 40 of these in under two hours the other day!

A Flower for All Seasons - Thanksgiving Style

Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian readers! When I was planning all of my thankgiving cards, I made a point of going through all my stamp sets and seeing what ones I had in my stash that may work. I keep my newest stamps sets on a table beside my workspace, so I tend to default to those ones while the rest languish on my shelves!  A Flower for All Seasons is a great little set for watercolouring and like the name implies, has an image for all four seasons, and I love them all.  Isn't that little ladybug cute?

Tips and tricks for this card:

• The image is watercolored with ink, and then crystal effects is applied on top with a small paintbrush to make it pop.
• The is a punched 1 3/4 circle, with a 2 inch ruby red cardstock circle cut with the circle scissors plus.
• The greeting is bent and popped up using Stampin' Dimensionals. The edges are inked with Crushed Curry and Soft Suede Classic Ink.
