Spice Cake DSP Quilted Top Note

Fall is officially here! Not that you'd know from the nice warm weather we are having. I'll gladly take it because in a few short months we'll be freezing!  A busy day is in store for me and the family today as we celebrate my wonderful husband's birthday.  He is a huge supporter of my stamping and a big help with my events and pretty much everything else, so I thought it fitting to give him a special shout out here!

Here's a fun card that I featured at my Holiday Mini Kickoff this past weekend. 

It uses the "quilted top note" technique which I shared last fall. It takes a bit of time to punch out the squares and get it together, but it is stunning. And a great way to use up your scraps!

This particular card takes the Quilted Top Note technique one further by embossing the Top Note with the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.  Instead of a ribbon, I used the coordinating Spice Cake Designer Fabric and the Spice Cake Buttons to top it off.

Baby Wipe Technique - Printed Petals Stamp Set

Last month at Stamping Soiree night we focused on reinker techniques. We created some cute pansies using the butterfly punch.  This was one of our other reinker techniques - baby wipe technique.  It's always been a favorite of mine to share with other stampers as it is so easy and packs a punch.

I just got this stamp set - Printed Petals - which is perfect for your spring cards. I didn't know that I really needed another flower, but this set and the coordinating wheel (called Petite Petals) are just too great.

Cardstock Dimensions for this Project

• Poppy Parade

Technique Directions

1. Take a pile of baby wipes and ensure you put them in an empty stamp case or on a plastic bag.
2. Take reinkers and randomly add dots of the ink to the baby wipe. You want to ensure you create an area with ink that is large enough for your stamp.
3. Press stamp into your baby wipe pad and stamp image on cardstock.

Finishing Touches

1. Fold card base in half.
2. Run wheel along bottom portion of card using Poppy Parade ink.
3. Stamp greeting in Pear Pizzazz on Pear Pizzazz cardstock. Wrap ribbon around and secure underneath with SNAIL. Attach to card base with SNAIL.
4. Cut out baby wipe flower, and then stamp the other two flowers and cut out. Attach all three flowers to the card base with Stampin' Dimensionals.
5. Top off by adding the buttons to the card base with Mini Glue Dots.

Here's a project from March's Stamping Soiree night - fun little pansies made with the butterfly punch and some reinkers! I first saw this technique on Dawn Olchefske's blog last Spring and she provided the inspiration for this card layout. You can see a step by step video of this technique on her site here.

Technique Directions

1. Punch out four butterflies – two for each flower – out of Shimmery White cardstock.
2. Spritz them generously with water.
3. Apply Elegant Eggplant reinker using Aquapainter. The ink should spread out and you can move it with the Aquapainter.
4. Repeat with More Mustardin the middle.
5. Allow to dry (or speed it up with the heat tool).
6. Curl the edges on your butterflies and then secure with a brad to hold it together.
7. Take a marker and add "lines" to the centre of your pansy.

Finishing Touches

1. Fold card base in half.
2. Run Whisper White through Big Shot with Top Note and then again with the Polkadot Embossing Folder. Attach ribbon as shown and then adhere to card base with Stampin' Dimensionals.
3. Stamp greeting on Whisper White with Elegant Eggplant ink, and then punch with Wide Oval. Secure to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
4. Attach pansies to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Technique Tutorial: Split Negative Featuring Bliss

Where has this week gone? I just realized that is Wednesday already and I'd not posted anything yet this week!!! Sorry about that - I'm back on track as of now.  Last month at Stamping Soiree we focused on out of the box heat embossing techniques, one of which was split negative and this one of the projects we did. Technique Directions

1. Stamp image in Versamark once on Whisper White, and once on Basic Black.
2. Cover Whisper White paper with Black Embossing Powder and Basic Black with White Embossing Powder. Heat set both images.
3. Cut images in half and then match them up create the split negative.

Finishing Touches

1. Cut and fold card base in half.
2. Run Basic Black piece through Big Shot with the Elegant Bouquet Embossing Folder. Attach to card base with SNAIL.
3. Attach "negative" images to scallop punched circle with SNAIL. Carefully pierce each scallop of the circle. Attach to card base with Stampin' Dimensionals.
4. BONUS! To get "colored" pearls, carefully cover them with the Craft Ink of your choice (here Basic Black was used) and then cover with Irridescent Ice and heat set. Attach to card as shown.

Technique of the Week: Emboss Resist with Pastels Featuring Easter Blossoms

Emboss Resist is ne of my all time favorite technqiues....I decided to mix it up for a spring-like look with gold embossing powder and Stampin' Pastels! Easter Blossoms makes every project look great - it's truly the stamp set you MUST have from the Occasions Mini!

Here's how to make this card and do this technique!

Technique Directions

1. Stamp image as desired on cardstock in Versamark.
2. Cover with embossing powder of your choice and heat set.
3. Using pastels gently sponge overtop of the image. Use lots of colors for a multi-toned effect.
4. If any pastels stick to your embossed image you can easily remove with tissue.

Finishing Touches

1. Cut and fold card base in half.
2. Run Baja Breeze piece through Big Shot with the Tulip Frame Embossing Folder.
3. Cut butterfly out of Very Vanilla, and oval out of Perfect Plum using Big Shot.
4. Stamp branch image on butterfly in Versamark, and greeting on oval in Versamark. Cover with gold embossing powder, tap off the excess and heat set.
5. Using pastels, execute emboss resist on the butterfly as per above technique directions.
6. Attach tulip frame piece to cardstock using SNAIL.
7. Attach oval to card base using Stampin' Dimensionals.
8. Take butterfly and gently curl up wings and then attach to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Ruffled Ribbon Technique Tutorial

Ruffles and frills are all the rage in papercrafting, especially when it comes to creating projects with a vintage flair. Technique Directions

1. Cut seam binding on one and and fray the binding.
2. Towards the centre grab a single thread so that the ribbon starts to gather.
3. Using your fingers gather the ribbon as desired.

Tips & Tricks: Make sure you have enough seam binding on hand to try this technique so you can get a feel for how to gather the ribbon first.

Finishing Touches

1. Cut and fold card base in half.
2. Run Very Vanilla cardstock through Big Shot with embossing folder and attach to the card base with SNAIL.
3. Cut Designer Series Paper and mat for it and attach together using SNAIL.
4. Gather seam binding as above and attach to centre mat by wrapping around the back with SNAIL. Attach to the card base with SNAIL.
5. Stamp image with Staz-On on Watercolor Paper. Color as desired with markers and blender pen. Punch out with oval punch.
6. Punch Decorative Label out of Rose Red cardstock and layer stamped image on top with SNAIL. Attach to centre of card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
7. Add pearls on top of the ribbon as shown.

Technique Tutorial: Chipboard & Designer Series Paper (Featuring Three Little Words)

I am swamped getting ready to go to the Stampin' Up Leadership conference in Nashville!

Chipboard is one of those items that most people just don't know on earth they'd do with it. This week we'll cover it with Designer Series Paper and learn a few tips and tricks for making it work for you.

Technique Directions

1. Take chipboard and cover top with Tombo Mono Glue
2. Apply paper on top and set aside and allow to dry
3. Once dry take your paper snips and trim off excess paper.

Tips & Tricks

• Sand off extra pieces with sanding block, for smaller pieces use the files from the distressing kit. These are very handy when you are dealing with the inside of a letter!
• To "finish" edges, gently sponge with coordinating ink. On this project the edges are inked with Pretty in Pink ink.

Finishing Touches

1. Fold cardbase in half.
2. Emboss Early Espresso piece in Big Shot using Polkadot Embossing Folder. Attach to card base using SNAIL.
3. Run Whisper White piece through Big Shot using Scallop Square.
4. Stamp greeting towards bottom using Early Espresso Ink. Attach square to cardbase using SNAIL.
5. Attach finished chipboard heart to scallop square using glue dots.
6. Punch heart from glimmer paper and attach with a glue dot.

Technique

1. Apply Shimmer Paint directly to stamp using a sponge dauber
2. Stamp as desired

Tips and Tricks: This is a great technique to use when you don't have the tools for heat embossing and still want the impact of silver stamped images. Be on the lookout for globs of paint before you stamp to ensure you have a crisp image.

 

Finishing Touches

1. Fold card base in half.
2. Run Bashful Blue cardstock through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.
3. Cut a Whisper White Top Note using the Big Shot. Then flip the Top Note and lie it on the die so that the ends are overlapping the sides and then run through again to get a square.
4. Stamp snowflakes using Shimmer Paint and set aside to dry.
5. Attach ribbon to the Bashful Blue panel by tucking edges in behind and tying a cheater bow. Attach to card base using SNAIL.
6. Set brad through large snowflake using Paper Piercing tool. Attach to base with Stampin' Dimensionals.
7. Top off brad with a rhinestone.

Quick Techniques for Holiday Cards with Welcome Christmas

1. Using sponge dauber, sponge shimmer paint over the entire surface of the paper for shimmery fun.

1. Take card base and fold in half.
2. Take designer series paper and emboss with Big Shot.
3. Sand to reveal snowflakes.
4. Stamp image in bottom right hand corner.
5. Sponge Shimmer Paint over surface of card. Set aside to dry.
6. Attach to cardbase with SNAIL and top off with Basic Pearls.

Simple techniques are the perfect way to save some time and get projects done! Combine a few for a unique look.

Technique Directions

1. Cut Designer Series Paper to 5.75 to 3. You may need to trim a hair off the 5.75 inch side to make it fit into the envelope.

1. Lick flap and slide Designer Series Paper into envelope.

1. On the front it will look like this. Trim off overhang with paper snips.

 

1. Fold along crease with bone folder. You can keep it shut with SNAIL or Dotto.

Finishing Touches

1. Take card base and fold in half.
2. Ink up Christmas Collage background stamp with Soft Suede and stamp on Crumb Cake.
3. Attach stamped panel to Soft Suede mat with SNAIL.
4. Attach ribbon in behind panel, and then attach ribbon and panel to card as shown.
5. Stamp greeting in Soft Suede on Crumb Cake cardstock and punch with Decorative Label. Attach to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.
6. Trim edge of ribbon as shown and then top off with a Very Vanilla button using a glue dot.
7. Add pearls to bottom right of stamped image.

You can step up your cards by lining your envelopes this year. This a great way to add some elegance to your projects while using up extra Designer Series Paper!
