Very Thankful - Emboss Resist Peacock

This is one of the cards we did this month with my stamp club, and features the emboss resist technique.  If you are a newsletter subscriber,this is also our technique of the month - if you aren't you should sign up today! 

The peacock image comes from the new Very Thankful stamp set.  This set includes four stamps all with thank you greetings.  Best of all, Stampin' Up is donating $2 from the sale of each of these sets to Ronald McDonald House.   The cost of this set is $19.95.

Recipe:

Stamps: Very Thankful, Baroque Motifs

Ink: Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo, Crushed Curry classic ink, Versamark

Paper: Basic Black, Rich Razzleberry and Whisper White cardstock

Accessories: White embossing powder, Black gingham ribbon

Tools: Heat tool, Corner Rounder Punch, Circle Scissor Plus, Glass Mat, Distressing Tool Kit, Sponges, 1 3/4 circle punch

Bookmark: Stamp, Layer and Sponge Technique Project (Great Friend)

Here's a quick and easy bookmark we made last week at my friend Kendra's workshop. A lot of the ladies from our book club were there, so she figured a bookmark was the perfect project!

The technique here is a whole lot of stamping, layering and then sponging.  Here's the order I stamped everything in to get this effect:

• Stamp Leave image in Kiwi Kiss
• Stamp Butterfly image in Baja Breeze
• Sponge over paper with Kiwi Kiss, So Saffron, Baja Breeze and Orchid Opulence. (darkest to lightest is best and remember to take it easy, it is easier to put more on)
• Stamp butterfly again in Orchid Opulence
• Finish by sponging over any spots needing a bit of colour, and around the edges

That's it.  The rest is super easy - all the corners are done with the corner rounder punch. The Whisper White base measures 2 by 5 inches, and the Night of Navy piece 2 1/4 by 5 1/4 inches.  I tucked the bashful blue grosgrain ribbon between the two layers, and then topped it off with a small filgree brad.

If you wanted to protect this a bit more, you could cover the whisper white piece with versamark and then heat emboss it with clear ep or glassy glaze enamel.  Or you could cover it with Crystal Effects. 

This would be a great mother's day gift, teacher's gift or for any book lover on your list!  

The sun is shining here, and we're in for a beautiful weekend!  I can hardly wait to get my hands into my garden this weekend!

Inspired By Nature - Chalkboard Card

Hi All - Busy week with my day job, which I do love, but doesn't leave a lot of time for cardmaking.  I've also been busy turning our spare room in the basement into my new scrapping and stamping space.  So far, there's only been one trip to Ikea, but another is soon to come...and in the process of assembling the new table, my husband's drill decided to expire.  The upside is that he'll get a new drill while I rip things apart!   I'll be sure to post pics once I get things in order.

Here's an easy card with a lot of wow factor.  It uses the chalkboard technique which I outline in this post. The new Inspired by Nature stamp set is amazing - I can't wait to make a framed picture with it like they do in the catalog on page 100 for my new space!

Stamp Club starts this week - so I'll post those projects in the next few days, as well as a project I made using a set from my Holiday Mini Catalog pre-order.  The fall and holiday sets this year are great...and SU has included lots of ornament set and other great decor items.

Scrapbooking 101

2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Registration Deadline: Monday September 14th

Have you always wanted to try scrapbooking but aren’t sure where to start?  This introductory class will discuss the elements of a scrapbook page and the use of colour.  We will be doing three layouts that you can customize with pictures to suit your style and needs.  All participants will receive a “cheat sheet” with scrapbooking terms, colour “psychology” and examples of easy page layouts.  Cost $20.

 

Watercolouring Class

Sunday September 28^th

1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Registration Deadline: Monday September 21st

Learn all about watercolouring using techniques with blender pens, crayons, and the aquapainter.  We will be making four cards and a box featuring the Dreams du Jour stamp set and Bella Rose paper (project pictured above!).  Cost $30 for class, if you pre-order the Dreams du Jour stamp set, the cost will be $20.   Participants must register in advance.  All pre-orders for stamp set must be received by September 10^th.
