Tres Chic Bird Cage Card

Bird cages are a hot trend in both crafting and home decor. I'm sure you've seen the bird cage featured in the Nature Walk stamp set, as well as the one in the super cute one in the Aviary stamp set.  You may not recognize this one - it comes from the Chic Boutique stamp set! I love this set, it's so cute and whimsical. Paired with this stamp set, these colors - Perfect Plum, Baja Breeze and Rose Red - are a great choice!   A little bit of embossing (Polkadot Embossing Folder), a Vintage Adornment and Baja Breeze seam binding tie it all together.

Technique of the Week: Greeting Card Kids Meet Watercolor Wonder Crayons

Stampin' Up recent announced that Watercolor Crayons are now available. They are my all-time favorite way to watercolor - I just love how they go on and are so easy to work with!  Here's a fun tag featuring crayons - they are a must have in your stamping stash!

• Real Red
  • 4.25 x 5.5 for card base
• Crumb Cake

Technique

1. Stamp image in desired ink.
2. Color with Blender Pen and Watercolor Wonder Crayons.

Tips and Tricks: To keep your crayons fresh and extend their life, take the color from the flat end of the crayon using your blender pen and apply to your project. For larger images, you can color using the chisel tip and then disburse the color using the blender pen.

Finishing Touches

1. Cut Top Note out of Real Red using the Big Shot.
2. Cut larger of the Scallop Squares out of Crumb Cake using the Big Shot.
3. Stamp image in Early Espresso on Very Vanilla and then punch out with circle punch.
4. Color image in with crayons and blender pen.
5. Sponge edges with Crumb Cake Classic Ink for a vintage feel.
6. Attach Scallop Square to the Top Note using SNAIL. Layer colored image on top using Stampin' Dimensionals.
7. Stamp greeting in Garden Green Classic on Very Vanilla cardstock, punch with Modern Label and then attach to project using Stampin' Dimensionals.
8. Set eyelet using Crop-A-Dile and tie knot with twill tape.
9. Add glitter underneath the girl using the 2-Way Glue Pen.

Watercolour Wonder Crayons - Medallion Birthday Card

Happy Tuesday! This was one of the cards we did a few weeks back in the Watercolour Wonder Crayons class.  The technique used here was to color with the crayons directly onto the stamp and then lightly mist it before stamping.  One tip for this is to make sure that your stamp is damp not dripping wet! 

The Medallion is dressed up with a Ice Rhinestone brad and a Filigree brad.  Quick and easy birthday card ready to go.

Soft Summer...yet again!

Here's a variation on an earlier card I did with the Soft Summer set from the Spring Occasions Mini Catalog.  This is one of those sets that I really didn't like the first four or five times I saw the mini catalog, but it grew on me.  Definitely not my usual style...but now I love it!  Less than two weeks until it's gone...along with the rest of the mini.

Watercolour Wonder Crayons yet again with the blender  pen...enough said. Background stamping is tone on tone with Certainly Celery classic ink, on Certainly Celery paper.

Staz-on and watercolour again....maybe I have a problem?  Lol - no more watercolouring after this.

Cheers to You - Summer Style!

This card is just so summer to me - maybe it's the bright colours which I don't think I've ever used together before!  A fitting card while I'm away in Florida by the pool in some mighty hot sun!  This is yet another one of the cards from the watercolouring class a few weeks back.

This uses staz-on ink on watercolour paper - so, by now you've probably noticed, that I'm all about the Staz-on and watercolour paper. Yes, they cost a bit more, but really, really are worth it if you are going to watercolour.  There's nothing worse than doing a lot of work to colour in an image...and then, bam-o, it's too wet or smudging or even worse, ripping.  And yes, I've had all of the above happen. So when i'm serious, its the staz-on/watercolour paper combo all the way!

The watercolouring technique used here is markers with the aquapainter.  This effect gives much more saturated colour than the other watercolouring techniques - and doesn't that make it look like a real margarita?  Yum!

Another thing to note....you may be thinking what designer series paper is that? It's from the Pumpkin Pie package of patterns designer series paper. I find that most people totally miss it in the catalog - and it really is a must-have.  You can find it in the current catalog on page 150.  It's a whole package of patterned paper in one colour - which I like because I have my favourite colours on hand, and it's a nice change from wilder colour combos.  This paper (aside from the in color ones) will be in the next catalog too, so I recommend you check it out! More Fifth Ave Floral and Stampin' Pastels

I don't think I've ever been so happy to go on vacation.  Monday I had a splendid day which involved a long call with HP technical support and losing the majority of my recent documents and emails.  Luckily, I'd not deleted the most recent pictures off my camera yet, so we're in blogging business today and while i'm gone all next week.  The only thing I'm a bit sad about is that my new catalog will arrive while I'm away!  I guess it will give me something to look forward to. :)

This is one of the cards we did in May at my watercolouring technique class.  This was coloured using pastels and the blender pen. While this is a simple card in terms of design, it was time consuming to colour the flower this way. The white is popped up to give it a big more dimension - and no other accessories are used. I'm not sure I knew I was capable of not adding brads or ribbon! The end result is well worth it as the colours are so great!  I really can't get enough of Fifth Avenue Floral - it's really the set everyone should have as you can do so much with it!

Soft Summer Wedding Card & Last Chance Contest Continues

It's a cold and dreary day, and things are very busy as I get ready for my son's birthday party this weekend, along with the all day Stampin' Girls convention for SU demos in Ottawa, where I will be doing a demo of the Decor Elements stencils in action. i'll post both pirate party and the projects from my demo next week.

In the meantime, here's another club project from May, which is a nice piece of summer on a yucky day!  This was watercoloured using Watercolour Wonder Crayons, and a  blender pen - stazon and watercolour paper were used to avoid any running of the colours.  The background is tone on tone - certainly celery using the other side of this double mounted stamp, and the white paper is from Taste of Textiles paper collection.  It's hard to tell but it's sparkly with pinstripes - very yummy!

Scene in a Garden Bday Card

Have you heard? I'm completely obsessed with watercolour wonder crayons!  I finally had a chance to play with my new Scene in a Garden set and make a masculine card for my DH's uncle.  This is a great set for pretty much any occasion - i'm sure it will get lots of use in the Fall with the pumpkins too.

The images are stamped in Staz-On using my handy Stampin-Ma-Jig (which you totally need if you don't already have one) and then i used the Earth Elements crayones and a blender pen.
